Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS)

Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS) provides special education evaluation to children from birth to kindergarten entrance following a referral due to an identified concern about the child’s development. This evaluation is conducted by a multidisciplinary team of professionals based on an evaluation plan developed with the parents. Based on the needs of the child, the evaluation team may include a special education teacher, school psychologist, speech-language clinician, occupational therapist, physical therapist, school social worker, audiologist, or other special education service providers.  Language interpreters are used when needed.

Evaluation may include a variety of procedures including observation, review of medical history, standardized testing, criterion-referenced tools, developmental history, parent interview, preschool teacher interview / information, and various rating scales.

Special education evaluation determines a child’s eligibility for Early Childhood Special Education services.
